{Pulido Contemplates Crowd Surfing into the Social D Moshpit}

Miguel Pulido, Santa Ana’s Mayor por vida, held a major fundraiser for his re-election bid last week that drew políticos and certain celebrities alike. The event was blogged about in ‘The Liberal OC‘ and made mention of the notable musicians in attendance. Pulido, who is just a simple sex scandal away from being a virtually complete this-side-of-the-border priísta, apparently enjoys the support of members of Sublime (Rome or no Rome?) and Social Distortion.

As Dan Chmielewski noted in his blog posting, Social D lead singer Mike Ness and his wife were at the fundraising shindig. This blog, which bills itself as ‘over the edge politics and music,’ rarely has the opportunity to opine on the two subjects within a single post!

For starters, the attendance of LBC’s Sublime ruffles no real feathers. It just gives me one more reason to have disdain for their music. (The other being that on any given night at any given bar in OC, you are assured to hear some drunken pendejo in a cover band or karaoke singing the opening lines “I don’t practice Santeria!”) The news of Social Distortion’s Mike Ness, on the other hand, is a terrible revelation. Of all the ‘public face of OC’ bands, Social D has been the most tolerable. “Story of My Life,” and “Ball and Chain” are classic cuts.

Attending a major fundraiser for a failed Mayor of Santa Ana? Intolerable!

    Mike Ness: From classic punker to SanTana sell-out—we’ll see what the financials have to say when they come out…

    Seems to be the trajectory of most of the big “punkers” of OC…Vandals anyone?
